If you are lucky enough to be a Chicago dad, then you have the world at your fingertips when it comes to exploring with your kids and meeting fellow fathers. From outdoor events to world-class museums, you are sure to find activities that suit you and your kiddos.
Fathers EveⓇ recognizes that fatherhood is a team sport. To that end, we are committed to helping dads connect for encouragement, support, camaraderie, and fun. With events all over the country, there’s something for every dad to enjoy.
Chicago has more than enough to keep dads and kids busy. Whether you’re looking for something to do with your children or just with other dads, you have a lot to choose from in the Windy City. Here are Fathers Eve’s top nine picks.

1. Shedd Aquarium

One of Chicago’s top attractions is the renowned Shedd Aquarium. Their award-winning exhibits will entrance even the youngest of visitors. Your kids will be mesmerized by the flashing, beautiful colors of fish and other aquatic animals from around the world. With hands-on experiences, talks by the animal keepers, and exciting presentations with whales, dolphins, and more, you and your children will love every minute at the aquarium.

2. The Field Museum

This Chicago institution has it all. On your own, with other dads, or with your kids, The Field Museum is a fantastic place to spend your day. From mummies to underground insects to Chicago’s famous resident, Sue the T-Rex, the exhibits are entertaining and educational and inspiring for learners of all ages. For an excellent adventure with your children, consider one of the overnight experiences the museum offers.

3. LEGOLAND Discovery Center

If you have young builders in your family, the LEGOLAND Discovery Center is a great spot to spend some time. Ideal for children ages 3-10 years old, the center includes 12 attractions and two rides. Your kids can meet LEGO characters, explore a jungle, and a pirate island, and work toward becoming a master builder. And since it’s always important to have snacks available with young ones in tow, there is even a LEGOLAND coffee shop to stop and take a break.

4. Adler Planetarium

For the space enthusiasts, you can’t beat Chicago’s Adler Planetarium. With exhibits on the sun, moon, and planets to enjoy, your visit will be full of fun disguised as learning. The planetarium offers pop-up programs, private events, and even yoga for Chicago’s residents and visitors. And for a chance to get out just with other dads, no kids allowed, try one of the 21-and-over after dark events that the planetarium hosts. This spot has something for everyone.

5. Millenium Park

Aerial view of Millennium Park
The crown-jewel of Chicago’s outdoor spaces, Millenium Park has plenty to offer year-round, and it doesn’t have to cost a dime. Incredible public art installations make the park a great place to wander around to see what is there. Summer brings free concerts and movie screenings in the park. Enjoy them with your children or with other fathers for a dads’ night out. When the weather allows, kids of all ages love splashing around at Crown Fountain. Bring a frisbee or a ball to toss around and get some exercise. During the winter, you and your kids can try your skills at the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink.

6. Green Mill Jazz Club

When you’re ready for a true dads-only evening out, head to the Green Mill Jazz Club. For the 21+ crowd, this throwback spot has improv, bebop, and big band music to keep you entertained into the wee hours. A dedicated parking lot nearby makes the Green Mill even more convenient for your night out with other dads. There are also lots of great restaurants nearby when you’re ready for a bite. Check the website for the calendar of performers and cover charges. The Green Mill is a cash-only establishment, but there is an ATM on site for patrons who need it.

7. The Second City

This world-renowned improv comedy theater got its start here in Chicago over 50 years ago. With a history that includes the likes of Bill Murray and Tina Fey, Second City is the premier place for a good laugh with your friends. With shows available most nights of the week, you are sure to find something for an evening out with the guys. And if you want to try your hand in the comedy world, there are classes and workshops you can join, too. Invite some fellow funny dads and give it a try.

8. Wrigley Field

This one sort of goes without saying, but for a great day with your kids or with other fathers, head to Wrigley Field to catch a game. There’s something special about America’s pastime, and the pace of a baseball game gives you a chance to slow down a little with your children or your friends. Wrigley is one of the most iconic spots in the country, and if you get a chance to go, you should. Make sure to bring your mitt in case a home run comes your way.

9. Logan Arcade

It’s hard to think of a better night out with other fathers than a 21-and-over arcade. But that’s precisely what Logan Arcade offers. With beers on tap and in bottles and a full range of cocktails available, Logan Arcade brings the fun. And surely their libations will make you a better pinballer.
